Some common questions about porting your number:
Can I take my number with me?
Yes – the FCC has mandated that all phone numbers can be retained by the customer and serviced by the local carrier of their choice, whether landline or wireless.
What if I want to change back?
That’s the beauty of it. If your carrier is not meeting your needs, you can change. The phone number is yours to take to any local provider.
What will it cost me?
Carriers DO have costs associated with the local number portability process, and there are SOME that assess a portability charge. FiberNet Monticello DOES NOT charge the customer to port their current number in, nor do they charge a monthly fee for keeping a ported number.
If I change my number to another phone company, can I still be listed in the directory?
Yes. Customers changing carriers have the option of retaining their current directory listing as it currently appears, or even updating it if changes are appropriate. New numbers issued by a carrier also have the option of appearing in the directory at the next publishing date.
What about 411?
Your information will be available as YOU see fit. There are no limitations caused simply by changing your carrier.
What about yellow pages?
Just as with white pages listings, you may still list your business in the yellow pages.
REMEMBER: The FCC regulates the Local Number Portability process to ensure that there are no unfair barriers to customers porting their numbers. YOU have the freedom to choose based on Quality of Service and Value – no strings attached.
